Fresno Pacific found itself tied with a talented Concordia team with just over four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles would score the last three goals of the game for a 9-6 win in the first game of the Lancer Invitational in Riverside.

Jaimie Lugo scored three goals to lead the Sunbirds, Dani Mortimer had two and Kaitlin Hicks added one more. Kelsie Harvey made 11 saves in the net.

After a low-scoring first half that saw the teams go into the break tied 2-2, Hicks gave the Sunbirds a 3-2 lead early in the third quarter. The Eagles responded with two goals before Lugo tied it up. After another Concordia goal, Mortimer scored within seconds of the third quarter buzzer to tie the game at 5-5.

A quick goal by Concordia's Jamie Clark, who finished with three, started off the fourth quarter. Lugo quickly followed with a goal of her own to make it 6-6 with 5:17 to play. Over the last 4:10 however the Eagles would score three unanswered and hold the Sunbirds scoreless to claim the win.

Later in the day the Sunbirds faced the tall task of taking on the NCAA #2 USC Trojans, who defeated the Sunbirds 27-1. Nicolette Haley recorded the lone goal for the Sunbirds with 5:03 left in the third quarter making the score 21-1. Charissa Gurnea made four saves and Kelsie Harvey had three in one quarter for FPU.

The Sunbirds continue the tournament tomorrow taking on Vanguard and Pacific, the latter of which has defeated FPU twice this season.
