Men's tennis overwhelms PLNU 7-2

Box Score

#1 Fresno Pacific won its 10th straight and concluded its GSAC schedule at 14-0 by defeating #7 Point Loma Nazarene 7-2 in San Diego on Wednesday.

The Sunbirds (21-2, 14-0 GSAC) won the top four singles spots and top two doubles spots to earn the victory. FPU came close to sweeping the entire match, but Amarit Sanchez retired in the third set at #5 singles and the PLNU #3 doubles team won by default.

"I'm very pleased with how the guys performed and I'm very happy to wrap up another conference title," said Sunbirds' coach Neil Castro afterward.

Kirill Sinitsyn and Xavier Smith made quick work of PLNU's top doubles team of Joel Myers and KC Ensley, winning 8-2. Jaime Sanchez-Canamares and Cledson Carvalho followed suit at #2 doubles winning 8-4.

Smith, Sinitsyn, Carvalho and Nathan Martinet all won in straight sets in their respective singles matches. Sanchez-Canamares did the same at the #6 spot.

FPU wrapped up its fourth straight GSAC title with the win. The Sunbirds will compete in the annual Ojai Tournament later this month, then prepare for NAIA Nationals in Mobile next month.
