Box Score 1 SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Fresno Pacific tennis teams headed into day two of the PacWest Championships, facing Hawaii Hilo and Azusa Pacific. In a match that was over three hours, the Sunbird men fell to the Vulcans 2-4. Whereas, the Lady 'Birds captured a sole point against the Cougars, earning a ticket to the third-place matchup.
In the morning, the Sunbird men did everything in their power to outscore the Vulcans. Fresno Pacific won the doubles point, but Hawaii Hilo was determined in singles. Although there were several long matches, including
Cedric Kaufmann's (7-5, 4-6, 6-2) and
Emilio Seelbach's (7-5, 7-6 [7-3]) daring attempts, freshman
Jordi Gonzalez was the only Sunbird to add another point to the board with his 6-0, 6-4 result. Despite the initial 2-0 deficit, the 'Birds lost to the Vulcans, 2-4.
The Blue and Orange finished the season 5-8 overall, sixth in conference.
Later in the day, the No. 29 Lady 'Birds went up against the two-time PacWest title holder, No. 1 seed Azusa Pacific. The Cougars swept up the doubles point on courts one and two. Junior Sunbird
Yume Ueoku battled fiercely against Larsson on court one, (6-2, 6-4), but Jessica McClean was the sole point winner for the 'Birds with her 6-4, 7-6 [7-4] result. The game ended in the Cougars' favor, 4-1.
