Box Score
Wes Dorrell went 3-for-4 with four RBI, continuing a 13-game hitting streak, and Fresno Pacific pitchers combined for a 15-strikeout shutout as the Sunbirds coasted to a 13-0 win over visiting Menlo on Tuesday night.
Ryan Castadio made his first start of the year and did not disappoint, working five scoreless inning and striking out eight to earn the win. The Sunbirds improved to 10-8 on the season, heading into an important conference series with The Master's beginning tomorrow night.
Menlo (11-8) was limited to just four hits and committed four errors in the game. The Sunbirds plated one run off Oaks' starter Chris Cleary in the first, but would knock the submarine-pitcher out with a five-run third. Dorrell had an RBI double, while
Andrew Douglas and
Aaron Lynn delivered RBI hits as well.
The Sunbirds added four more in the 5th inning and the rout was on.
Michael Rivera doubled and was driven in by
Ryan Acevedo. Dorrell would come through with the big hit of the inning, a towering shot to right field with the bases loaded that just missed being a grand slam and instead went for a three-RBI double.
With the game pretty much in hand, Sunbird relievers went to work.
Aaron Kirkpatrick looked very sharp in two scoreless innings in which he struck out four without allowing a baserunner.
Steven Lozier tossed a scoreless 8th and
Daniel Neves would strike out the side in the 9th to end it.
The Sunbirds added three more runs in that span, highlighted by a line-shot home run to left by Rivera that got out in a hurry. It was the first home run hit by an FPU player at the Sunbirds' home park this season.
Alex Santacruz would add an RBI-single in the 8th.
FPU welcomes The Master's tomorrow night for the first of a two-game home series with the second-place Mustangs (13-6, 4-2 GSAC). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
