Box Score AZUSA, Calif. - Wrapping up their time down in SoCal, the Fresno Pacific men's tennis team had an impressive showing against Hawaii Pacific, narrowly falling to the Sharks 2-5.
"Our guys emptied their tanks today," said head coach Sam Gaeddert. "They fought hard for nearly 4 hours and were right there. Losing is never fun. I'm proud of the fight. We are excited now for a long stretch of home matches to finish the season strong."
The Sunbirds were efficient in their doubles matches, capturing the big point on courts one and two. Although
Ryoma Okamoto and
Tim Bangert took a loss at the start (2-6),
Emilio Seelbach and
Jordi Gonzalez finished next with a score of 6-4. Soon after,
Cedric Kaufmann and
Joaquin Salinas soared through with their big 6-3 win on court one, clinching their first conference doubles win of the season.
Across the board, Fresno Pacific pushed back against Hawaii Pacific's offense. Kaufmann endured a tiebreaker after going (6-7,6-7). For the second time this season, Seelbach was the sole Sunbird to claim victory in the singles matches, winning it 4-6, 6-2, and 6-2. Gonzalez and Bangert also went to three separate showdowns in hopes of adding more points to the 'Birds board. In the end, Hawaii Pacific captured all five singles points to rival the Sunbirds' two overall points.
Fresno Pacific men's tennis is currently 1-5 overall.
