Box Score 2 LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific tennis teams met resistance in the conference matchups against Biola University. Although the Sunbirds pulled through with two big wins in their singles matches, both of the Eagle tennis teams clinched the win 1-6 to end the day.
Early in the afternoon, the Lady 'Birds started off with a competitive match on the No. 2 doubles court. Fellow Sunbirds
Halle Faherty and
Jessica McLean led the charge with a score of 6-7 before heading into a tiebreaker for all the marbles. Despite their efforts, Biola won the doubles point with the win over Margarita Munoz and
Malia Mitchell (3-6). An unforgettable moment occurred on the No. 1 singles court, where
Yume Ueoku challenged the Eagles' top player and valiantly pushed through to win the match (6-3, 6-2).
"Congrats to Biola, they played very well today," said head coach
Sam Gaeddert. "We had some bright spots in doubles and Yume is playing very well in singles, both today and throughout the season. Today is a learning experience for us as we move forward."
The Sunbird men kicked things off with tough doubles matches.
Cedric Kaufmann and
Joaquin Salinas led the Sunbirds' offense on court one, but were defeated 4-6.
Tim Bangert and Ryoma Okamato put up a fight on court three, managing to keep the Eagles on their toes for a moment, before they loss the doubles match 7-5.
Emilio Seelbach and
Jordi Gonzalez were resilient on court two tying it up at 6-6 although the match went unfinished. The Blue and Orange struggled in the singles matches, but it was Seelbach who clinched the sole victory for the 'Birds (6-2, 5-7, 10-3), ending with a final score of FPU 1 - BU 6.
"I thought the men battled well today, especially in doubles. Biola is a solid team and we played them well. I'm encouraged each match by the fight that we have and I'm looking forward to watching them continue to put it all together."
