FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific men's tennis team competed in a midweek exhibition against Fresno City College on Wednesday afternoon. After their big conference win against Jessup last week, the Sunbirds kept the momentum going against the Rams.
The Sunbird men had a brilliant performance against Fresno City College. Although matches against junior colleges don't count towards FPU's overall record, the 'Birds utilized the match for learning and growing purposes.
"This was a full team effort from the guys this evening," said head coach Sam Gaeddert. "It's always great to see high-level tennis being played here in Fresno. I want to thank Fresno City College for coming out. They brought a great crowd of supporters with them and it was a fun environment to be a part of."
Several Sunbirds were able to compete in singles for the first time this season, including
Joaquin Salinas,
Ryoma Okamoto,
Micah Goertzen,Â
Ezra Betancourt, and
Hayden Westlake. Each of these student-athletes kept their opponents at a distance.
Stepping up for the first time this season, the Sunbird duo of
Tim Bangert and Okamoto finsihed first for the 'Birds in their doubles match.
Emilio Seelbach and
Jordi Gonzalez finished second, and No. 24
Cedric Kaufmann and
Joaquin Salinas wrapped up the final doubles match.
The Fresno Pacific men's tennis team is 1-2 overall in regular season contests this season.
