Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. - It was a poor day at the office for 29th ranked FPU men's tennis, who dropped a 6-1 shocker against Biola Tuesday afternoon. In a rematch of the season's first match of the year won by the Sunbirds 5-2, it was the Eagles this time who came out swinging.
The #'s three and one doubles duos of
Emilio Seelbach &
Brodie Sodersten and
Ben Cronau &
Sven Bangert, respectively, were the first to fall and award Biola the doubles point.
Gregor Kliimask and
Martin Ramirez won their first set on court two but abondoned the match once the point was sealed.
The singles competition was much closer than the scoreline would suggest, as three of the six matches went into a third set and the other three were close two-set victories.
Ravi Nelson fell on court one 6-3, 6-4 for Biola's second point of the day, followed by a 7-5, 6-3 defeat for Sodersten on court two. Ramirez fell 6-2, 7-5 on court three to give the match to the hosts. Play continued on, and it was Seelbach who came out on top of his three-set win 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 to claim FPU's sole point of the day on court five. Over on court four Kliimask took the first set before dropping the next two 7-5, 2-6, 2-10. The final match concluded on court six, where
Ben Cronau fell in a back-and-forth display 1-6, 6-3, 4-6.
UP NEXT
The Sunbirds' will spend the night in SoCal before a short journey north to Azusa for a massive clash with the 9th ranked Azusa Pacific Cougars on Wednesday. It will be an opportunity to end the regular season with another top-10 takedown before heading to Surprise, Arizona for next week's PacWest Championships.
