FRESNO, Calif.- A pair of wins by senior
Brodie Sodersten in his doubles and singles matches proved to be the lone bright spot of the day for Fresno Pacific Sunbirds as they fell 6-1 to the Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans Saturday afternoon at the Haak Tennis Complex.
The Sunbirds competed hard in the doubles matches.
Emilio Seelbach and
Brodie Sodersten won the first set of the day, 6-1 at the No. 3 court. The Vulcans answered back with a 6-2 in of their own at No. 2. The deciding match fell on the No. 2 court, where
Gregor Kliimask and
Martin Ramirez battled but fell after surrendering a break 4-6, giving the Vulcans the doubles point.
In singles play, the Vulcans took straight set wins at the No. 5,4, 1, and 3 positions. At the No. 6 position, Sven Bangert fell in a third set tiebreaker after a back-and forth match, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 7-10.
The 'Birds picked up their only win of the day as Sodersten kept his momentum rolling from the doubles to win in straight sets at the No. 2 position, 7-6 (5), 7-5.
