La Jolla, Calif. – In the first WWPA match up for the 'Birds this season, FPU fell to #14 UC San Diego by a final score of 11-5, despite receiving scoring contributions from four different Sunbirds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Tritons got off to a hot start, rattling off four unanswered goals to start the first period.

Sam Witt got FPU on the board, andÂ
Emily Woodruff chipped in another goal for the Blue and Orange before the time ran out to bring the first period tally to 4-2.
• UC San Diego came on strong in the second frame and never looked back. The Tritons put up seven more goals to FPU's three bringing the final total to 11-5.

STATS:
• Witt led the Sunbirds with two goals. She also contributed two steals and an assist.
• Other Sunbird scorers included: Woodruff (one goal),
Jenna Collins (one goal) and
Katie Kisling (one goal).
• In the cage, goaltender
Gracie Bishop tallied eight saves and one steal.

BEYOND THE BOX:
• With two goals today, Witt has recorded more than one goal in each of the past six games.
• Bishop's eight saves were a season high for the redshirt sophomore.
