SEASIDE, Calif. – The Sunbirds squared off with Cal State Monterey Bay for the second time this season, coming away with a 12-9 win and picking up their first WWPA victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The first period was all FPU; eight minutes in, the Sunbirds had netted four goals while holding the Otters scoreless.
• CSUMB broke the scoring drought in the second frame, putting up four goals of their own, but not before the Sunbirds tacked on three more to bring the halftime tally to 7-4.
• The Otters pulled within one with a late score in the third, but two goals from Savannah Mangrum and another from Amy Zaninovich gave the Sunbirds a lead they would hold onto. Final: 12-9.
 
STATS:
• FPU racked up a season high 12 assists from: Mangrum (3), Emma McBride (3), Zaninovich (2), Gabriella Garcia-Roy (1), Emily Woodruff (1), Willow Brown (1), and Katie Kisling (1).
• A balanced offensive attack saw five different Sunbirds find the back of the net, including Zaninovich (4), Jenna Collins (2), Mangrum (2), Brown (2), and Kisling (2).
• Goaltender Gracie Bishop earned the win with ten saves in the cage for the Blue and Orange.
• The Otters received four goals from Marisa Lovos while goaltender Shelby Stephens notched seven saves.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• In the last nine games against the Otters, the Sunbirds have come away with six victories.
• The 'Birds currently sit at 1-1 in WWPA conference play with four more matchups left.
• With three assists today, Mangrum currently leads the team with a total of 28.
