FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific water polo team came up short on Friday afternoon, as the Sunbirds fell to #25 California Baptist 9-3 in Golden Coast Conference (GCC) play at the Fresno State Aquatics Center.

FPU falls to 12-11 overall and 0-4 in GCC play with the setback, while the Lancers move to 15-9 overall and 1-1 in league action.

The Sunbirds played the Lancers tough early, as the two teams exchanged goals 11 minutes into the game.
Amber Penney tallied two scores during the stretch to keep the game even at 2-2. CBU used a 3-0 run the last four minutes of the half, however, to lead 5-2 at the intermission.

After each team scored once in the third period, the Lancers put the game away with a 3-0 fourth to make the final 9-3.
Emily Knowles added the lone goal for the Sunbirds in the second half.

FPU received a strong performance in the cage from
Courtney Hall, as the senior recorded 11 saves.

CBU made the difference in man-up opportunities, going 5-of-10 offensively and holding FPU to 2-of-11.

Paizlee Dreyer and Lizette Perez each recorded a hat trick for the Lancers, while Lina Medeiros made nine saves in goal.

The Sunbirds are back in action on Saturday, April 1 against Sonoma State. The game will be played at Fresno State with a start time of 11 a.m.
