Sunbirds Host Stanislaus State on Tuesday

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's basketball team hosts Stanislaus State on Tuesday for its lone game during the Thanksgiving break.

ABOUT THE SUNBIRDS
• FPU most recently went 1-2 last week, as the Sunbirds defeated Pacific Union (93-90) before falling twice at the Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic to Sonoma State (76-73) and Minnesota State (93-68).
• In the win against Pacific Union, the Sunbirds shot a season-best .632 and had six players score in double-figures. Freshman Aamondae Coleman collected 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting, while fellow freshman Adrian Antunez facilitated the offense with six assists while adding 10 points.
• At the Ron Logsdon Classic, Jake Straughan led FPU by averaging 15.5 points while draining eight threes in two games. He was later named to the All-Tournament team for his efforts. Straughan is currently riding a three-game stretch of scoring in double-digits while adding at least three treys in each contest.
• The Sunbirds are scoring 76.0 points per night while shooting an impressive .496 from the floor. Sam Burt has scored in double-digits in all four games and has added two double-doubles to lead the 'Birds.

AWESOME ANTUNEZ
Adrian Antunez was recently named the PacWest Freshman of the Week (11/13). Antunez, a product of Clovis West High School, started both games for FPU at the West Region Crossover Classic. In his collegiate debut, Antunez scored 13 points and grabbed five steals against St. Martin's. He then added 10 points, four rebounds and two steals in a setback to Western Oregon. His total of seven steals led the PacWest for the first week of the season. His weekly averages totaled 11.5 points and 3.5 steals per game while playing 28 minutes per night.
 
PACWEST PRESEASON POLL
• The Sunbirds were picked to finish 11th in the 2017-18 Pacific West Conference standings according to a poll of the league's head coaches. California Baptist received 178 points and 10 first-place votes to top the poll. Dixie State was second with 169 points and two first-place votes. Following the two were Point Loma and Concordia in third and fourth, respectively. The Sea Lions garnered 161 points and two first-place votes, while the Eagles amassed 154 points. Rounding out the poll was Azusa Pacific (142 points), Chaminade (132), Hawai'i Pacific (121), Dominican (94), Biola (79), Hawai'i Hilo (72), FPU (63), Holy Names (43), Academy of Art (37) and Notre Dame de Namur (25).

ABOUT THE WARRIORS
• Stanislaus enters at 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Warriors most recently fell to Cal Poly Pomona, 62-46, on Nov. 18.
• Stanislaus State is currently averaging 70.8 points per night and is shooting .395 from the floor. Three Warriors are averaging double-digits, led by Andy Cleaves' 15.0 points per game mark. Kaelen Mitchell and Xavier Francois are adding 10.5 points per night, while Francois is also collecting 6.5 rebounds per contest.
 
SERIES HISTORY
• The Sunbirds and Warriors will be meeting for the sixth time, with Stanislaus State holding a 3-2 all-time series advantage. The last meeting came during the 2016-17 campaign, as the 'Birds fell 79-74 in Turlock. FPU led 35-28 at halftime but couldn't hold off the Warriors in the second half.
