As a Junior (2017-18) - Appeared and started in 22 games for the Sunbirds....led the team in scoring at 12.4 points per night while playing 31.3 minutes per game....shot .405 from three and made 60 threes on the season....added 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per night....had 15 double-digit scoring efforts on the year....scored a season-high 25 points and had six threes against Stanislaus State (11/21)....scored 23 points and added five treys in a win at Biola (12/16).

Prior to FPU - Spent three years at the University of Idaho....two-time All-Big Sky Academic Team....prepped at Colton High School under head coach Seth Paine....named all-league and all-state guard....scored 1,505 points and added 512 assists, 417 rebounds and 185 steals in his high school career…left Colton HS as the program’s all-time leading scorer…earned Washington Player of the Year honors in 2014 from the AP, WIBCA and Northwest Hoops…was a McDonald’s All-American nominee…also played football and baseball at Colton HS and pitched a perfect game in 2014 with 14 strikeouts…was all-state in football as a quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back…graduated from Colton HS with a 3.97 GPA and was Colton HS Salutatorian.

Personal - Son of Jenni and Gene Straughan....his brother Josh played football at Stillman College and Southern Illinois University....person he most admires is his dad....enjoys eating Philly Cheesesteaks....favorite movie is Jurrasic World....enjoys reading Tim Tebow's "Shaken"....roots for the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James....listens to Drake....Jake is currently in the masters program in kinesiology with plans to become a college coach.
