FRESNO, Calif. – With the 2026-27 academic year less than one month away, a pair of Sunbird men's basketball players – past and present – have been competing on the international stage.
Hugo Gonzalez Garcia (Junior) and
Isaac Peralta (Class of '26) both recently represented the Sunbirds abroad for New Zealand and Nicaragua, respectively.
Gonzalez Garcia, a native of Christchurch, New Zealand, took part in FIBA 3X3 Youth Nations League competition for the New Zealand U21s in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Gonzalez Garcia played in 12 events for his nation, averaging 7.25 points per 10-minute game. Notable highlights for the team included victories over Japan, Belarus, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Meanwhile, recently-graduated four-year point guard
Isaac Peralta was called up to represent Nicaragua in a pair of FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifiers. Despite both games ending in defeat against the Dominican Republic and Mexico, the Orange County, California native gained valuable international experience. Peralta, who ranks among FPU's top ten all-time in points, assists, and steals, is in the process of establishing a pro career overseas.
