Ninth-ranked Sunbirds soar over Eagles

Fresno, Calif — The ninth-ranked Sunbirds didn't let a long match and a late night on Friday carry over as they flew by Biola 8-1 at home.

FPU (16-5) overcame a pair of injuries and a late arrival time from Southern California last night following a nearly four-hour match to easily defeat the Eagles (7-10). Teddy Renard stepped in for the Sunbirds at the No. 6 singles spot blanking Greg Cobain 6-0, 6-0 for his first career shutout win. He also pulled out an 8-4 doubles win with partner Kyle Rowe at the No. 2 spot. Fellow freshman Leonardo Urquidi won his first career match at No. 3 singles toppling Luke Mountain in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Rowe, Michael Tymkiw and Stefan Loop also won their matches in straight sets.

The Sunbirds will have nearly a week off before hosting Sonoma State on Friday at the Haak Tennis Complex on April 4. Matches are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
