Sunbirds drop 5-4 decision to No. 36 Point Loma

No. 10 Fresno Pacific let No. 36 Point Loma slip away 5-4 to fall for the second time in three matches to a ranked Division II opponent.

Petra Jurova scored a pair of wins earning an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, along with partner Angelika Sobiecka, before winning in straight sets at No. 1 singles over Maika Adair 6-2, 6-0. Alison Carre and Laure-Anne Josso also earned three set victories in singles.

The Sunbirds led at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles before allowing a pair of 5-2 leads to slip away in what ultimately determined the outcome of the match.

"We let too many leads slip away," said head coach Neil Castro. "We were up in both doubles matches and we ended up losing. That can't happen if we are going to be successful as a team."

Fresno Pacific will take on No. 17 UC San Diego tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in La Jolla.
