San Diego, Calif. -- Stefan Loop and the Sunbirds narrowly avoided an upset bid by No. 48 Point Loma as they moved to 6-1 with a 5-4 win.

Loop was impressive winning his singles match 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets over Kevin McKelligan. Freshman Daniel Gianopulos stepped up as well securing a 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 win over Benjamin Hammond at the No. 6 spot, and with it the overall match. Leonardo Urquidi and Brendan Aguilar both won at doubles and singles for the fourth-straight match dating back to the duo's first pairing together against UC Santa Cruz.

Thomas Gely and Kyle Rowe struggled dropping straight set matches in the absence of No. 1 Michael Tymkiw who did not participate in singles.

"We played well enough to win today," said head coach Neil Castro. "But we have to play a lot better tomorrow against a quality team like UC San Diego."

Fresno Pacific will look to make it seven straight wins when they travel to La Jolla to take on No. 14 UC San Diego tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
