Waipahu, Hawaii -- In the opening round of the 2013 Pacific West Championships the Sunbirds put on a dominant display, sweeping Point Loma 5-0 to advance to the semi-finals on Friday. The win was FPU's third over the Sea Lions this season.

Fresno Pacific, the third seed at the tournament, swept all three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles play. No. 15 Kirill Sinitsyn and junior Marco Gabriel delivered the final blows as both earned straight set victories.

Sinitsyn defeated PLNU's top singles player Brooks Baldinger 6-4, 6-3 beating the senior for the third time this season. All the wins came in straight sets. Gabriel earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over Jakob Kevelaerts for his 15 th win of the season.

All four of the remaining singles matches were unfinished with the Sunbirds leading or tied at every spot.

In doubles the Sunbirds got a strong performance from their No. 1 pair, the region's No. 4 ranked doubles team, Sinitsyn and junior Kyle Rowe. The duo scored an 8-4 win over Baldinger and J. Kevelaerts. Junior Michael Tymkiw and senior Amarit Sanchez scored an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles while sophomore Gabriel and sophomore Stefan Loop earned an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Sunbirds will face Azusa Pacific in the semi-finals on Friday where they will look to reverse their fortunes. The Cougars have taken both matches from Fresno Pacific this season by identical scores of 5-4. Match time is set for 11:30 a.m. PST and live updates can be found on the tournament central page.
