Sunbirds take down Grove City, fall to Northridge

Fresno Pacific jumped out to a quick start in game one on Friday in the Posada Royale Invitational, capturing a 9-4 victory against Grove City College of Pennsylvania. In game two, FPU faced off against #14 Cal State Northridge resulting in a 15-3 loss for the Sunbirds.  
 
Two goals by Jaimie Lugo and one by Nicolette Haley put the Sunbirds ahead 3-1 early after the first quarter in game one against NCAA D3 #9-ranked Grove City. FPU stretched the lead in the second behind goals from Krista Loper, Jenna Morris, and Dani Mortimer taking a 6-2 lead after two quarters.
 
The Sunbirds finished off the victory behind two second half goals by Loper and one by Mortimer, outscoring Grove City 3-2 in the half to finish the 9-4 win. Loper finished with three goals and Kelsie Harvey played well in the cage, tallying 10 saves in the victory.
 
In game two, #14 Cal State Northridge overwhelmed Fresno Pacific in a 15-3 loss. FPU fell behind early, going down 8-0 at the half. FPU was able to put up two goals in the third quarter, and one in the final quarter before falling. The Matadors rode a scoring attack of nine different players scoring at least one goal in the win.
 
Fresno Pacific continues play in Thousand Oaks tomorrow, as they take on La Verne at 9:15 am and Whittier at 3:30 pm finishing off the Posada Royale Invitational.
