Fresno Pacific dropped two games in Monterey on Saturday, falling 10-4 to Santa Clara and 17-5 to Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Sunbirds (0-5) trailed 5-3 at halftime vs. Santa Clara before the Broncos closed out the game on a 5-1 run in the second half.
Nicolette Haley scored twice for FPU while
Krista Loper and Malory Retig added one goal apiece. Freshman
Kelsie Harvey, making her first college start, made 10 saves in goal.
FPU followed that up with its second loss of the season to CSUMB (the Sunbirds lost 15-6 in Fresno two weeks ago). The Otters would jump out to a 7-1 lead to take control early on. FPU would get within 9-4 but never any closer.
Dani Mortimer, playing as a field player for the first time, scored two goals in the second game. Retig added one, as did Haley and
Jennifer Cobb.
The Sunbirds head to Stockton tomorrow for games with Wagner and Pacific, the latter of which is receiving votes in the NCAA Top 20 poll.
