Sunbirds close gap on UOP in 9-4 setback

Fresno Pacific played tough against the University of Pacific before falling 9-4 in a rematch from last week. The Sunbirds (0-8) fought hard against a quality UOP (6-2) squad that has now won six straight.

The first half proved to be the difference in the match, as the Tigers jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the first two quarters. The Sunbirds were held scoreless in the first quarter before Krista Loper scored the lone first half goal in the second period.

Despite being down at the half, FPU would come out in the third quarter looking to get back in the match. The defense, behind Kelsie Harvey's 14 total saves, held UOP scoreless in the third while the offense produced two goals, one apiece from Jennifer Cobb and Dani Mortimer.

As the lead was cut to four, the Tigers would put the game away in the final period scoring two goals while holding FPU to one Brenna Woods goal to seal the victory 9-4.

“The girls once again played strong against a strong UOP,” said head coach Bryan Suhovy. “We continue to close the gap on them, and we get to see them one more time this season.”

The Sunbirds travel to Riverside on February 17th and 18th to participate in the Lancer Invitational at California Baptist University.
