Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific women's water polo team ended the Claremont Convergence tournament with tough matchups against DI opponents, Villanova and Princeton.
GAME 1 | FPU 5, NOVA 14
Villanova began the match by scoring at 7:44 in the first quarter. The Sunbirds quickly responded, as
Emma Cook scored twice to give the Sunbirds a brief lead at 2-1. Villanova then regained control, with two Wildcats netting a goal, closing the first quarter at 3-2.
Regan Azevedo scored early in the second quarter, but Villanova's offense surged, powered by two more goals, to extend their lead to 6-3 by halftime. The Wildcats continued to dominate in the second half, highlighted by a penalty goal in the third quarter, concluding the game with a 14-5 victory.
Offensively, Cook led the team with yet another hat trick this weekend with an assist. Azevedo made an impact with her two goals, while
Sierra Coyne was crucial for the team with her two assists.
GAME 2 | FPU 4, PRINCETON 24
Fresno Pacific scored one goal in each quarter while Princeton tallied eight goals in the opening period.
Frances Benson set things off for the 'Birds in the first, then
Maggie Cook added a goal to her belt. Princeton's offensive pressure remained relentless, leading 16-2 at the half. In the end, Benson and Lambert wrapped up the final Sunbird points before the game ended 4-24.
In goal,
Evalena Filippi recorded twelve saves overall on day two and recorded one steal, providing a strong defensive presence to close the convergence tournament.
