ROCKLIN, Calif. - Despite a tough outing against top five competitors, the nationally ranked Sunbirds were able to collect 12 total points for the day after facing No. 4 Concordia University Irvine and tournament host, No. 2 Jessup.
In the first matchup of the day, the Golden Eagles took the lead in the partner stunts, leading 5-1. The 'Birds chipped away at the deficit as best as they could, collecting two additional points in pyramids and tosses, one single point in jumps and tumbling, then followed it up with six total points in the team routine. In the end, the final score was FPU 10 - CUI 32.
Tournament host, Jessup University, proved to be a worthy adversary as they kept the Sunbirds at a distance. The Warriors shut out the 'Birds in the first two quarters, gaining an eight-point lead by halftime. Fresno Pacific made their rallying cry during jumps and tumbling, where they collected their two points, but the team ultimately fell 2-26 to the nationally ranked powerhouse to close the tournament.
The Blue and Orange are 4-7 overall.
