FRESNO, Calif. – Concluding their first ever appearance at the West Conference Championships, the Fresno Pacific stunt team finished third overall, splitting the day with a loss to Jessup and an incredible win over Vanguard.
GAME 1 | FPU 0, Jessup 23
After splitting the day against Concordia and Hawaii Pacific on Friday, the Sunbirds put up a great fight against the Warriors, the winner from Pool A, to open the day.
In the first half, Jessup swept every single point despite the 'Birds efforts, jumping ahead 8-0. In the third, the 'Birds rallied after a timeout, hoping to get the point on routine two, but the Warriors captured the final point of the quarter, making it FPU 0 – Jessup 12. The Lady 'Birds performed well in the final quarter, competing to the best of their ability against their tough opponent. In the end, Jessup sealed the win with a final score of 23-0, just a point shy of a perfect score.
GAME 2 | FPU 30, Vanguard 21
Last week, the Sunbirds competed against the Lions into an intense battle that ended 23-25 in the Lions' favor. The battle for third place was just as nail-biting as the two teams brought their A-game to the final match of the weekend.
In the first quarter, the 'Birds split the initial point, then managed to tie it up at three with their next routines. An incredible performance sealed the fourth point for the 'Birds, taking the lead 4-3. The second quarter brought even more energy into the Special Events Center! The Sunbirds performed well in Pyramids and Tosses, securing six points overall, bringing the score to FPU 10 – Vanguard 6.
Coming out of the half, both teams did everything they could to score points in Jumps and Tumbling. Even though the Lions slowly shrunk the gap, the Sunbirds continued to land their routines effectively, making it 15-11. In the fourth, FPU jumped ahead with the first two points and continued to dominate! The Sunbirds soared ahead 21-14, soaring through the air and building even more momentum. In the end, Fresno Pacific closed out their first season with a huge 30-21 victory! The 'Birds finished in third place, going 7-10 overall.
After the final match, the teams were recognized for their efforts over the course of the season. Six Sunbirds were named Stunt All-Americans:
Erin Katusich,
Avarie Settle, and
Yuriet Amezola were named first team while
Chloe Johnson,
Alycia Escalante, and
Mallory Friesen were second team.
Avarie Settle was incredible for the 'Birds, clinching Freshman of the Year. Combining their performances from both days of the championships,
Bella Miranda (First Team) and
Mariana Valdez (Second Team) were included in the All-Tournament team.
With first year-head coach Alyssa Troutt at the helm, the Fresno Pacific Stunt team completed their first regular season of collegiate competition. The Lady 'Birds impressed everyone with their phenomenal effort and energy on the mats, rivaling against tough well-established stunt programs and being nationally ranked 16
th in the nation for the first time ever.
"Wrapping up our conference season with a big win!" said head coach Alyssa Troutt. "These girls showed up today—mentally locked in and physically ready—beating a long-standing program. I couldn't be more proud of the way they competed, supported each other, and rose to the occasion. All glory to God for the strength, resilience, and opportunity to compete together."
