Sunbirds Split the Day at Vanguard With Thrilling Finale

COSTA MESA, Calif. – Fresno Pacific stunt closed out the regular season with a split over UC Davis and weekend host, Vanguard on Saturday afternoon. The Sunbirds overcame the Aggies 22-17 and narrowly fell to the Lions 23-25 on the home team's senior day.
 
The Lady 'Birds kicked off the day against UC Davis, jumping ahead 3-0 in the first quarter. The Aggies continued to trail the Sunbirds despite capturing four points, making it 4-6. After the half, the Blue and Orange captured four consecutive points, but UC Davis managed to creep back into the match, 9-10. It truly came down to the team routine for the 'Birds to soar ahead, earning 12 points overall (five in routine three, three in routine two, and four in routine one). The Blue and Orange secured the win, 22-17.
 
Game two was a thrilling match as both teams were neck and neck until the very last minute. After being tied at eight at the half, the Sunbirds delivered stellar performances hoping to outshine the Lions. Vanguard managed to leap ahead 13-11, but the Blue and Orange continued to trail by two points, not allowing them to jump too far ahead. In a thrilling performance, the 'Birds tied it back up at 18 before both teams headed into the fourth quarter. Despite landing each move and hitting their marks, Vanguard outscored the Sunbirds and won the match 25-23.

"Today was a perfect combination of hard work and attitude from our athletes," said head coach Alyssa Troutt. "To put up that many points against two talented, well-established programs says a lot about who we are and where we're headed. We give all the glory to God for the strength, discipline, and unity shown today—remembering that everything we do is through Him who gives us strength."
 
Fresno Pacific hosts the West Conference Championships from April 3-4 in the Special Events Center. Six teams will compete in pool play on day one and will enter bracket play the next day in hopes of making the championship game!
