ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific Cheer team traveled down to SoCal for the USA (United Spirit Association) Collegiate Championships at the Anaheim Convention Center this past weekend. The Sunbirds wowed the crowd and the judges with their clean-cut performance and captured a fourth-place finish to end their season.
Head coach Rayna Harris mentioned, "I am super proud of our performance at the collegiate championships. Taking home fourth is a great accomplishment especially for a team our size. Many of the teams we competed against had rosters double our size or more or were much larger universities. Both of our performances were clean routines receiving zero deductions meaning our execution was where it needed to be. The team really came together to leave it all on the mat, it was a late night, our mat time was 9:42, but they came out with such awesome energy."
The Sunbirds finished fourth in the College Game Day and Situational Sideline Cheer division, earning a 95.6 in overall points. There were 12 colleges/universities within the division and they were not separated by size, co-ed, or university division. Ultimately, the 'Birds trailed behind Hope International (97.3) who took first, University of Idaho (96.6) who narrowly came in second, and College of the Sequoias (96.4). Both Sunbirds' routines were precise and were only points away from the top of the competition.
"This team has worked hard all season for their two minutes on the mat, and once again FPU showed up so well at this competition proving the strong cheerleaders they are. This team represents the university extremely well. I look forward to seeing everything this team continues to accomplish."
On Thursday night, Fresno Pacific Cheer will perform at halftime of the men's basketball game to honor their sole senior
Jaslin Saephanh and head coach Rayna's final year as head coach. Come down to the Special Events Center and cheer on your Sunbirds!
