FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds posted national top times and logged school record breaking performances at the 2025 Sunbird Invitational on Saturday at the FPU Track at the Steinert Athletic Complex.
On the women's side, Brianna Green set a school record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.82, the top time in the nation.
The 'Birds dominated in the 100m dash, with Nydia Chance leading the way for the 'Birds coming in at 11.30, a national leading time. Behind Chance, teammates Riley Arnold, Iyanna Fuller, Ariana Vera, and Shaniya Randolph all recorded national leading times, placing themselves fourth, fifth, eighth, and ninth respectively all time in the Sunbirds' record book.
In the 400m hurdles, freshman Avril Mendoza stamped her mark on the record books with a 1:09.98 performance, another national leading provisional mark.
Green continued her strong meet with another nation leading mark, with a 23.59 in the 200m, placing her third all-time. Closely behind, Chance also had a lifetime best of 24.01, also a national top ten time, placing her fifth in the Sunbird's record books.
In the distance events, freshman Mattie Whipple led the way winning the 1500m, placing her fourth all time coming in at 4:41.69.
Junior Julissa Avila is now fifth-all-time in the 3K with her best time of 10.17.20.
Wrapping up the meet for the women, the 4x100 team of Chance, Green, Randolph, and Vera came in at 45.36, a national provisional mark, sixth all time for the 'Birds.
For the men, Jonathan Biffle ran a school record and nation-leading time in the 110m hurdles in 13.69, backing that up with a national provisional mark in the 400m hurdles with a 52.17, good enough for third all-time in the record books.
Adrian Hodges had a breakthrough day in the triple jump, breaking the 50' mark for the first time with a top 10 national mark of 50'5.5" (15.38m), a mark placing him fifth all-time in the storied jumps program. Following up his performance in the triple jump, Hodges also had a lifetime best 23'7.25" (7.19m) in the long jump.
Shemar Palmer ran a national leading 46.37 in the 400m, as well as a nation-leading 20.65 in the 200m, improving on his own school record by .01 of a second.
Gus Remlinger made his outdoor debut for the 'Birds in the 100m coming in at 10.68, placing him ninth in Fresno Pacific record books.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Remlinger, Palmer, Zavian Cook, and Hodges narrowly missed setting the school record in their debut effort, running 40.61, only .04 of a second from the mark set in 2023 PacWest Championships.
The team of Jackson Paramo, Cook, Damian Smith, and Palmer capped a dominant team performance with one final win in the 4x400m relay, running 3:12.93 in the 6th fastest time in school history.
