CLOVIS, Calif. - At the 2026 West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State at Veterans Memorial Stadium, notable achievements were recorded across various track and field events. The Sunbirds were relentless in every event, racking up event wins, provisional marks, and standout relay performances in a meet full of big-time moments.
To kick things off, sophomore Cyan Haslip achieved a lifetime personal best of 14.34 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, moving her to the fourth position on the Fresno Pacific University all-time list. She also recorded a 100-meter dash time of 11.69 seconds, a lifetime personal best that ranks her eighth all-time at FPU and serves as a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA. Clara Wagner also set a lifetime personal best of 14.80 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, advancing her to the ninth spot on FPU's all-time list. On the men's side, Rome Johnson finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a lifetime best of 52.06 seconds, a provisional NCAA qualifier, which also ranks him fourth all-time at FPU. Jonathan Tseko-Biffle was close behind, finishing third with a time of 52.15 seconds, also provisional qualifying. Hudson Hergenrader competed in the 400 hurdles with a lifetime best of 55.90 seconds.
Not to mention Shemar Palmer won both the 400 meters and 200 meters, with a personal best of 20.57 seconds in the 200, placing him as the top NCAA-ranked athlete and surpassing his previous provisional qualifying mark. Jerome Brown clocked a lifetime best of 48.34 seconds in the 400 meters, tying him for the tenth position on the FPU all-time list. Jackson Paramo achieved a personal best of 48.95 seconds in the same event.
The season started strongly with fast 800-meter runs for the 'Birds: senior Emanuel Salas clocked 1:51.53, Monte Moore hit 1:51.6, and freshman Luke Sanders finished at 1:52.13, ranking them first, second, and fourth in the PacWest conference respectively.
In jumps, Malachi Carrasco won the men's high jump with a height of 6'11", moving him to the top spot in NCAA rankings and surpassing his provisional qualifier. Julian Buchan opened his season with a personal best in the pole vault, jumping 16 feet 6 inches, earning a provisional qualifying mark and ranking tenth nationally, as well as fourth all-time at FPU. Micah Vossler, a freshman, achieved a significant personal best in the long jump with a distance of 24 feet 3/4 inches, placing him sixth in FPU history and just one centimeter shy of NCAA provisional qualification.
In throws, Tevž Podlipnik improved his NCAA provisional mark with a 72.05-meter javelin throw, earning the number one ranking in the NCAA. Chavez Grey placed second in the men's discus with a lifetime best throw of 53.32 meters, ranking first in the PacWest and seventh nationally, meeting the NCAA provisional standard. Brooklyn Epperley achieved a personal best of 45.75 meters in discus, earning her a provisional NCAA qualifying mark. Siolo Lua improved her discus personal best to 40.96 meters, while Liyah Davis also enhanced her discus best with a throw of 34.78 meters.
Closing everything out with the races, the men's 4x100 relay team, consisting of Jaih McElroy, Palmer, Aamir Smith, and Gus Remlinger, finished third with a season-best time of 40.95 seconds, ranking seventh all-time at FPU. The women's 4x400 relay team, made up of Avril Mendoza, Mikiyla Royal, Shaniya Randolph, and Emma O'Neil, won their race in 3:43.02—an NCAA provisional qualifier—currently ranked first in the country and ninth all-time at FPU.
"This weekend demonstrated the team's strong commitment to their development and to each one of their disciplines," said head coach Robert Foster. "As we progress and prepare for the upcoming conference championships. The teams chemistry growing stronger as they progress towards team goals. It's exciting to see the many blessings that God has waiting and is slowly unfolding.
