FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific track & field team spread across the country this weekend, competing in four meets and turning in a series of standout performances as the Sunbirds continue to build momentum ahead of postseason.
Brutus Hamilton Multi (Apr. 2–3)
In the women's heptathlon, Clara Wagner delivered a record-breaking performance, placing fourth with 4,724 points to set a new program mark. Sophomore Kaitleigh Downing added a solid showing with 3,869 points. On the men's side, Jackson Paramo was the lone Sunbird competitor, finishing sixth overall with 6,486 points.
Stanford Invitational (Apr. 3–4)
The Sunbirds saw strong performances across multiple events. Cyan Haslip placed 10th in both the 200m (24.22) and 100m hurdles (14.28). In the field events, Kyrin Coilton cleared 1.55m for seventh in the high jump. In the throws, Brooklyn Epperley captured the discus title with a mark of 45.29m, while Siolo Lua finished eighth (38.61m).
On the men's side, Emanuel Salas clocked 1:57.22 in the 800m, and Rome Johnson placed seventh in the 400m hurdles (52.68). Micah Vossler earned a runner-up finish in the long jump (6.93m), while Shane Bagley stole the spotlight with a first-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a program-best 5.60m (18-4.5).
Texas Relays (Apr. 2–4)
A standout highlight from Texas was Tevž Podlipnik winning the javelin throw in the (B) section, posting the best distance overall among all sections. Dejan Mileusnic also performed well, finishing 8th overall in the javelin. Shemar Palmer improved his season best in the 100m dash and placed seventh in the invitational section of the 200m. Avril Mendoza surpassed her lifetime best in the 400m hurdles, now ranking second in the country. Nydia Chance also hit a new season best in the 100m with a time of 11.59 seconds.
Additionally, the women's 4x400m relay team improved their time, moving up to second place in the national rankings.
Mike Fanelli Distance Carnival (Apr. 3–4)
Estevan Gonzalez opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 400m (50.09). In the 800m, Monte Moore led the Sunbirds with a Top 20 finish (1:51.60). Luke Sanders posted a time of 3:52.78 in the 1500m, and Rodney Chemalmal was the top Sunbird finisher in the 10,000m, placing 34th overall.
For the women, Julissa Avila finished fifteenth in a tough 10,000 meters race, sealing her time of 37:39.77. Mattie Whipple recorded a time of 2:16.47 in the 800 meters and 4:41.10 in the 1500 meters. In the 5000 meters, Julia Martinez was the first Sunbird to finish (18:11).
Head coach Robert Foster mentioned, "As the team gears up for the PacWest championships in a couple of weeks, overall, they're looking sharp, motivated, and ready to head down to San Diego."
