RENO, Nevada- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds had an extraordinary showing this weekend, delivering record-breaking performances and climbing the ranks in NCAA Division II standings.
On the men's side,
Shemar Palmer dominated the 200m, with a time of 20.94 earning the second spot in the DII rankings and claiming victory by .14. Johnathan Biffle, a standout freshman, etched his name in the record books by clocking 8.08 seconds in the 60m hurdles, securing the second-fastest time in FPU history, .In the middle-distance events,
Bo Olsen had a strong performance, finishing second in the 600m run. The men's 4x400m relay team, comprised of
Damian Smith, Olsen, Palmer, and
Jackson Paramo, delivered an impressive performance with a time of 3:14.10, good for 13th in the DII rankings. In the distance medley relay, the team of Olsen, Smith,
Aidan Ransom, and
Monte Moore recorded a second place finish with a time of 10:30.51, earning them the ninth fastest time in Fresno Pacific history. In the field events,
Chavez Grey stood out in the shot put, finishing fifth overall, the top DII competitor in the field.
The women's team also delivered stellar results, highlighted by a historic performance in the 60m hurdles.
Brianna Green set a school record with an impressive time of 8.66 seconds, earning her the 11th spot in DII rankings. Teammates
Alexis Ranger-Dunbar,
Avril Mendoza,
Cyan Haslip, and
Milani Ward contributed to the event's success, as the 'Birds ran five of the top ten times in Fresno Pacific history. The times placed Ranger-Dubar second, Mendoza fourth, Haslip eighth, and Ward tenth in the record books. In the 60m,
Nydia Chance ran a blazing 7.44 seconds, good enough for tenth in DII. In the weight throw,
Casey Davis moved up the Sunbird all-time leaderboard to seventh, after recording a throw of 48'4.75". Capping off the meet, the women's 4x400m relay team, featuring Kenahdi Haslip,
Ariana Vera,
Brianna Green, and
Shaniya Randolph, continued their streak of excellence, clocking 3:46.54, claiming the #12 spot in DII rankings.
"The value of these early meets will certainly be demonstrated in the second half of the season if we stay focused on the process of our development and don't worry about the marks," said director of track and field
Ray Winter. "However, the data shows we are in a very good place across all disciplines. In particular, it looks to be an historic year for Coach
Robert Foster's hurdlers to go along with the perennial power of his sprinters."
Next, the 'Birds will head back to Nevada one more time for the Wolfpack Classic, February 7-8th.
