Brandon Gibson Signs with Fresno Pacific, Set to Boost Sunbirds' Roster

FRESNO, Calif. - Head Coach C.J. Haydock is thrilled to announce that the Sunbirds have secured a commitment from one of California's most sought-after guards, with Monterey Trail (Elk Grove) guard Brandon Gibson signing his letter of intent.

"I chose FPU because I love how Coach Haydock and the entire coaching staff recruited me," said Gibson. "It felt like a family environment, and the amazing team culture I experienced on my visit made me want to be a part of it."

The 6'5" guard will arrive in Fresno with a suitcase full of accomplishments. Named Sacramento Player of the Year, Norcal Player of the Year, and fourth-team all-state accolades, he leaves behind a storied prep career with the expectation to make an immediate impact in Fresno. Gibson filled the stat sheet in nearly every category his senior season, posting averages of 23.8 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, along with 1.8 steals and 1.2 blocks.

"BG's got a chance to be a special player in the PacWest," Coach Haydock said. "He's dynamic on offense, making plays for others, scoring at the rim, and drawing a ton of fouls, while also being an alpha defensive player, high motor, and capable of guarding multiple positions effectively."

Gibson, who competed with Team Lillard on the Adidas circuit for his club ball, leaves behind one of the best careers in Sacramento high school history. He set the single-season scoring record for Monterey Trail with 720 points, while also surpassing the single-game scoring record with a 51-point outing.

Gibson's commitment continues a tradition of the Sunbirds' coaching staff being able to secure some of the most accomplished high school players in the state of California.

"It's a huge testament to our staff for being able to secure one of the most recruited players on the West Coast," Haydock said. "Assistant Coach Jerry Razo did a great job of identifying Brandon early, and from day one, we knew he would be an incredible fit for our style of play. We felt very clearly with his skill, competitive drive, and size, that he was one of the best two-way guards in California from day one."

Gibson will look to make an immediate impact on the Sunbirds in the fall of '24.

"I'm most looking forward to getting to know my new teammates and experiencing the city of Fresno," Gibson said.

The Sunbirds are set to welcome 11 returning players for the 2024-25 season, with Gibson joining other notable signees that will be announced in the coming week.
