PacWest Action on Tap for Fresno Pacific

FRESNO, Calif.  The Fresno Pacific men's soccer team opens PacWest Conference play at home on Monday before hitting the road for two league games later in the week.

"Heading into conference play, it's important for us to keep a solid rotation of players that work hard to earn shutouts like we did on Saturday," head coach Jaime Ramirez said. "The travel schedule this week will test us with two conference contenders, but I believe we are up to the task."

About the Sunbirds (2-0-1)
FPU is unbeaten through its' first three games for the first time since the 2008 season, which ended in the opening round of the NAIA National Championship tournament. The Blue and Orange cruised past UC Santa Cruz on Saturday night, as six different Sunbirds found the back of the net in a 7-0 blowout. Keeper Patrick Timmer has yet to surrender a goal through 170 minutes between the pipes, while 11 different Sunbirds have tallied at least one point.

Academy of Art
About the Urban Knights (1-3-0)
ART U is in the middle of a six-game road swing to begin the season, with its' lone loss coming in overtime against Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 1. Most recently, the Urban Knights fell to Humboldt State 3-1 last Sunday to wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 1-3-0 record. Academy of Art has seen big contributions from underclassmen in the early going, with Oliver Hadeen and Edvard Edvarsson providing all the offense and sophomore keeper Kris Jensson racking up 15 saves.

FPU has never lost to Academy of Art, claiming a 6-0 advantage in the all-time series. In last year's 5-1 Sunbird victory, Anthony Velarde and Pak Hei Chan combined for two goals and three assists.  
 
Concordia
About the Eagles (1-4-0)
Concordia defeated Cal Poly Pomona 3-2 on Wednesday to snap a three-game losing skid, but Cal State San Bernardino handed the Eagles their fourth loss on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles will be glad to begin PacWest action at their home field, as Concordia has lost four consecutive road games dating back to last season.

FPU enters this week with a 23-9-1 all-time record against the Eagles, but Concordia has taken each of the last two meetings by a final of 4-1. The Sunbirds are 13-3 against Concordia in Fresno and went for nine goals the last time the two teams met at Ramirez Field. 
 
Point Loma
About the Sea Lions (3-2-0)
PLNU picked up consecutive wins last week, defeating 18th-ranked Fort Hays State 1-0 on Thursday before defeating Northwest Nazarene 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. Each of the Sea Lions' five games have been in San Diego, and each have been separated by just one goal. Tim Siegfried leads the PacWest Conference in shots per game at 4.00, while the Sea Lions rank second in the league with 28 saves.
