Sunbirds Hold Nation's Top Team CSULA to Two Goals

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — On Sunday afternoon, Fresno Pacific men's soccer faced the nation's No. 1 team on the road, falling 2-0 to Cal State LA. The Sunbirds kept the Golden Eagles, who entered the match with 11 shutouts this season, to two goals while looking for opportunities to get on the scoreboard.

Cal State LA struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. Nick Hardiman made two saves in the first half to keep FPU within reach, while the Sunbirds looked to respond with a pair of corner kicks in the 24th minute and shots from Wungsem Zingkhai and Noah Naranjo. Fresno Pacific went into halftime trailing by one.

The Sunbirds continued to push after the break, earning three corner kicks between the 61st and 69th minutes. Cal State LA, however, doubled its lead in the 68th minute when a corner kick went in their favor. Hardiman made two additional saves in the second half, including stops in the 73rd and 89th minutes, as the Sunbirds worked to contain the Golden Eagles' late pressure, but the match ended 2-0.

Fresno Pacific moved to 6-9-1 overall and 3-7-0 in CCAA play.
