HAYWARD, Calif. –  Julia Ponce and Emma McBride each scored three goals on Friday afternoon, but the Sunbirds were ultimately tripped up by Cal State East Bay by a final of 19-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After falling behind 1-0 early, the Sunbirds answered with three goals out of the hands of three different players.
• Fresno Pacific moved in front 6-2 near the end of the first quarter, but the Pioneers followed with a run of six straight goals before the half ran out.
• Ponce wasted no time in the third quarter, tying the game less than a minute in before McBride gave the Sunbirds a 9-8 lead less than a minute later.
• CSUEB scored five goals in the final quarter to pull away and hang on for the victory.
 
STATS:
• Sam Witt scored a pair of goals to maintain her team lead (36) in that category for the season.
• Madeline Frey picked up five saves between the posts, while Pioneer counterpart Makenna Nation tallied 12 before leaving the game.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Emily Knowles has scored two or more goals seven times this season.
• Friday's game was FPU's highest-scoring contest since March 3, when they put up a season-high 18 goals against CalTech in Claremont.
