CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's water polo team exploded for 29 goals on Friday, as the Sunbirds swept action on the opening day of the Claremont Convergence. FPU opened the day with a 14-7 victory against La Verne before taking down Chapman 15-3 in the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One
• FPU overcame rainy and windy conditions to come out on fire in the opening half against the Leopards. The 'Birds used a five-goal second quarter to enter halftime ahead 8-3.
• The Sunbirds finished off the win with six goals in the second half.

Game Two
• The Sunbirds scored the opening 12 goals of the game and ran away with the win against Chapman.
• FPU held an impressive 10-0 advantage at halftime in the victory.

Sam Witt led the Sunbirds with four goals in the win against La Verne.
Hannah Holly continued her scorching play with three goals,
Julia Ponce and
Katie Kisling each scored twice, and
Jenna Collins,
Emily Knowles and

• Witt continued her career day with six points in the win against Chapman, scoring four times and dishing out two assists. Holly added another hat trick, Knowles and
Savannah Mangrum scored two goals apiece, and Ponce, Collins,
Emma McBride and Kisling rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece in the win.

Madeline Frey earned the win in the cage and totaled five saves for the 'Birds.
• The Sunbirds held a stellar .500 shooting percentage in the win, while also holding the Panthers to a clip of .107.

• The four goals from Witt in each game matched her career high, which she has done four times.
• The 15 goals in the win against Chapman marked a season best for the Sunbirds.
• Ponce has now totaled 125 career goals, which is now third all-time in program history.
• Suhovy only needs three wins to reach the milestone of 100 career victories for the women's program.
