AZUSA, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific University women's water polo team dropped a Golden Coast Conference (GCC) matchup to Azusa Pacific, 13-9, on Thursday evening.

The Sunbirds fall to 13-12 overall and 0-5 in league action with the setback, while APU improves to 13-10 overall 3-1 in the GCC.

FPU started off the scoring on the afternoon with a goal from
Amber Penney. The two teams then exchanged goals before the first quarter ended. APU took control of the game in the middle periods, however, and outscored the Sunbirds 7-2. FPU found the back of the cage four times in the fourth period, but it was too little too late.

Penney led the Sunbirds with a hat trick, while
Hannah Holly and
Julia Ponce each found the back of the cage twice.
Coco Demoulin and
Savannah Mangrum rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece.
Emma McBride facilitated the offense with three assists.

FPU outshot the Cougars 36-30 on the afternoon, but was held to 1-of-11 on power-play opportunities. APU, meanwhile, capitalized on 6-of-7 power plays.

Mar Pastor led APU with four goals.
