Box Score
SANTA ROSA, Calif.  – The Fresno Pacific University baseball team fell 2-0 on Sunday before rain washed out the final game against Sonoma State.
Â
Righthander
Trent Ashford received the starting nod for the Sunbirds, surrendering a pair of runs over 5.1 innings before giving way to the FPU bullpen.
Jonathan Molina and
Carson Schellenberg combined for the final eight outs, each overcoming a base hit to record a scoreless outing.
Â
Offensively,
Baron Bower picked up his second multi-hit game of the young season, slugging two of the team's three base hits for the afternoon. The Blue and Orange did make a brief rally attempt in the final chapter but failed to take advantage with two runners on and nobody out.
Â
Haydon Turpin turned in the longest outing of any Sonoma State pitcher this year, hurling five innings and striking out three Sunbird hitters. Aldo Severson, earned the win, however, as both SSU runs came in the bottom of the sixth, paving the way for Cody Bennett to earn his first save of the season.
Â
The Sunbird offense was still threatening after a five-run onslaught in the nightcap, but umpires were forced to call the game when a storm hit in the opening frame. FPU has now seen five games cancelled and another moved this spring due to inclement weather.
Â
Fresno Pacific is set to return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Seaside, Calif. to take on Cal State Monterey Bay. First pitch from Otter Sports Complex is slated for 2:00 p.m. Â
