IRVINE, Calif. - Fresno Pacific resumed PacWest play on Friday, falling 3-0 at Concordia in the first game of a schedule doubleheader before the second game was suspended during the fifth inning due to rain with FPU leading 2-0. That game resumed on Saturday with the Sunbirds falling 4-3 in 11 innings.
The Sunbirds had eight hits in the game but were unable to score as Eagle starting pitcher Isaiah Terrazas worked in and out of trouble and finished with a complete game victory.
Jake Martinez went 7 2/3 innings for FPU, giving up three runs.
Nick Pate went 2-for-4 for the Sunbirds.
Preston Scott,
Joey Gallegos and
Leo Carrillo all had doubles for FPU in the loss.
In the second game, Gallegos gave FPU the lead with an RBI single in the second inning.
Angel Flores homered in the fifth to make it 2-0 before the game was halted. Starter
Josh Medeles had thrown four scoreless innings to that point but the Sunbirds had to make a pitching change when the game resumed on Saturday.
The Eagles fought back to tie the game but Pate gave the Sunbirds a 3-2 lead with an RBI single following a triple by
Preston Scott. FPU led 3-2 heading into the ninth but was unable to close it out as the Eagles forced extra innings. The Sunbirds put runners on in both the 10th and 11th innings but would be unable to capitalize. The Eagles would win it with an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th.
Pate finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and took the loss in relief. Gallegos went 2-for-4 with an RBI and
Tristen Alvarez finished 2-for-5.
