IRVINE, Calif. - Rickie Garcia and
Austin Tatum each threw complete games as Fresno Pacific swept a doubleheader with Concordia on Saturday by scores of 8-2 and 3-1.
Zac Smit and
Leo Carrillo each had three hits on the day for the Sunbirds in the victories.
In game one the Sunbirds built a 7-0 lead highlighted by a three-run sixth inning that featured a two-RBI triple from
Joey Gallegos. Garcia scattered eight hits while going the distance, giving up two earned runs, walking none and striking out five in the win. Smith finished 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI while Carrillo went 2-for-4 with two walks.
In the second game
Derek Arkelian sparked the offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Preston Scott added an RBI double that highlighted a three-run fifth inning and finished 1-for-3. Tatum went seven strong innings, scattering five hits and giving up just one run.
The Sunbirds improved to 8-13, 3-4 in PacWest play with the wins. CUI fell to 12-16 on the year, 8-8 in the PacWest.
FPU is back home this week, hosting a four-game series with Azusa Pacific beginning on Thursday at 6 pm.
