FPU was held scoreless in the first half and Santa Clara enjoyed a five-goal advantage. Despite falling behind early, the Sunbirds continued to apply pressure and outscored the Broncos 2-1 in the third quarter.
Emily Marr converted a penalty shot at 3:24 then with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter
Candice Cobarrubias buried a shot in the back of the Broncos' net.
Alyssa Stevens scored with 1:20 remaining in the fourth quarter and
Kaitlin Fletcher followed suit 30 seconds later after a steal from
Kelsie Harvey.
Harvey continued to show why she is one of the premier goaltenders having 14 saves, three steals and one assist against the nationally ranked Broncos.
"I'm disappointed about the loss but I'm happy with our performance," said head coach
Bryan Suhovy. "We're really starting to develop and learning how to fight. We're fighting through out the competitions to get what we want. Defensively we really have figured out how to play six minded and work together. Santa Clara is a strong team but our girls didn't back down. I'm excited about the growth they continue to show."
Fresno Pacific will return to action concluding regular season play on April 12 in Riverside taking on Cal Sate San Bernardino and Cal Baptist.
