Box ScoreLA JOLLA, Calif. – Fresno Pacific continued its difficult non-conference schedule as they fell 13-2 to #13 UC San Diego.
The Sunbirds trailed early as the Tritons kept FPU off the board in the first quarter of play. Freshman
Kaitlin Fletcher netted her goal at the mid-point of the second quarter. The Sunbirds trailed 1-6 at intermission.
UC San Diego scored three goals extending their lead while
Nia Apodaca buried a goal with 20 seconds remaining in the third quarter. UC San Diego secured their victory in the fourth quarter with four unanswered goals.
Kelsie Harvey had seven saves for the Sunbirds in goal.
"UCSD is a highly ranked team for a reason," said head coach
Bryan Suhovy. "Our girls played hard and we accomplished the goals we set for ourselves. Our defense was strong and we created good opportunities on offense. I am happy with our overall performance against a solid team."
The Sunbirds return to the pool tomorrow for a double header taking on GCC opponent #20 San Diego State (10 am) followed by Brown University (1 pm) tomorrow.
