ST. GEORGE, Utah - A long trip to Utah with a short-handed squad proved to be too much to overcome as Fresno Pacific fell 85-61 at #7 Dixie State on Monday night. A game that featured the PacWest's two preseason favorites had a much different look than what was anticipated at the start of the year with FPU only able to suit up six players due to a recent string of injuries.
The Sunbirds (5-10, 0-7 PacWest) competed hard against the PacWest's top-ranked team on its home court but the depth of the Red Storm (13-1, 7-1 PacWest) would win out.
"Playing with six guys is tough. We have to find a way to do it though," said head coach Chris Wright. "We have four home games in a row coming up and a chance to get back on track.
Malcolm Griffin had 22 points to lead the Sunbirds.
Josh Mason added 14 points,
Trevon Clayton had 11 and
Johnell Thompson added 10.
Zach Robbins had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Red Storm, who are looking for their fifth straight PacWest title.
The Sunbirds now begin a four-game home stretch, beginning this Saturday when they host BYU Hawaii at 4:30 pm.
