Fresno Pacific men's basketball will host conference rival Azusa Pacific in the NCCAA West Region final this Wednesday night at 7:30 at the Special Events Center on the FPU campus with the winner advancing to the NCCAA National Tournament next week in Winona Lake, Indiana.
The #2-seeded Cougars (13-13) defeated #3-seed California Baptist 78-73 on Tuesday night behind 25 points from guard B.J. Porter and 12 points and 12 assists from point guard Troy Leaf to earn a spot in the title game against the top-seeded Sunbirds (19-7), who have posted a 12-0 record on their home court.
The two teams split the season series with APU defeating the Sunbirds 88-67 in Azusa on January 5 and FPU defeating the Cougars 93-67 in Fresno on February 9. APU was without Leaf, their leading scorer on the season, in the second matchup.
The Sunbirds and Cougars are ineligible for NCAA Division II postseason play as they transition from the NAIA. Had the Sunbirds been eligible, they would have been the #2 seed and earned in first round bye in the PacWest conference tournament.
General admission for postseason games is six dollars and three dollars for FPU students & staff. The game can be watched live for free at
