Match Results - Harvard
Match Results - #16 UC Davis
Taking on two top Division I opponents is a tall order, one the Sunbirds could not fill on Monday dropping both matches to Harvard, 16-6, and No. 16 UC Davis, 15-3.
“We played two tough games with well-respected Division I teams today,” said head coach Bryan Suhovy. “It was a day of learning. We came out flat in the first game against Harvard but improved and began to work towards the goals we set out at the start of the day.”
Keslie Harvey had 19 stops between the two matches, 10 against Harvard (13-5) and nine against UC Davis (11-12). Jennifer Cobb led the team in scoring with four goals, three of which came against the Crimson.
“Both our two-meter girls, Nia Apodaca and Jenn Cobb, played very well at the center position,” said Suhovy.
Against Harvard the Sunbirds (1-17) scored on their opening possession to tie the match at one, but the Crimson ran off five straight goals to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
All-American Dani Mortimer scored two goals, both in the second quarter, and freshman Emily Marr added one goal in the fourth.
In the second match the Sunbirds were put in an early hole as the No. 16 team in Division I ran off six straight goals to start the match. FPU finally scored on a goal by Marr with 24-seconds left in the first quarter.
The Aggies would outscore the Sunbirds 9-2 in the remainder of the match to send the Sunbirds to their fifteenth straight loss. Mortimer and Cobb each added goals in the loss.
Fresno Pacific will be back in action next Friday when they travel to Bakersfield for the CSU Bakersfield Tournament.
