Fresno Pacific got three goals from Jenn Cobb, but it wasn't enough to take down Sonoma State as the Sunbirds fell 13-7.
Dani Mortimer and freshman
Emily Marr each added two for FPU (1-15) goals in the loss.
“Sonoma is a strong team this year, but I felt we played well against them,” said head coach
Bryan Suhovy. “Although we are not happy with a loss we are growing stronger as a team and gaining a lot of experience this year. Jenn Cobb really stepped up for us today and played one of her best games yet.”
The Seawolves (8-11) got three goals from Noelle Herrera and at lead one goal from nine other players in a balanced scoring attack.
FPU fell behind 5-2 after one quarter and never recovered after being outscored in every quarter except for the fourth. In the final frame the Sunbirds held even with Sonoma State 2-2.
“We still have a lot to improve on, but all in all the girls have shown a lot of growth this season,” said Suhovy.
Fresno Pacific will be back in action for a double-header Monday in Davis, Calif. FPU will take on Harvard at 12:00 p.m. and UC Davis at 5:30 p.m.
