RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Fresno Pacific battled back from a 12-point second half deficit to take the lead with just over three minutes left, but the Sunbirds were unable to overcome a CBU team that connected on 14 three pointers on the night in an 86-81 loss on Saturday night.
"This is a process and tonight was another good chance for us to learn and grow," said head coach Chris Wright. "We are going to figure things out, I truly believe that we will."
The Sunbirds out-shot the Lancers 47% to 38% and out-rebounded them 40-34, but CBU made up the difference by making 48% from long range.
Trevon Clayton had a team-high 22 points for the Sunbirds (5-5, 0-2 PacWest).
Jackson Carbajal added 17,
Jonathan Jefferson had 13 and
Phil Jackson finished with 11.
The Lancers improved on a program-best 9-0 start to the season and are 3-0 in PacWest play. Ryan Berg had 20 points to lead CBU.
FPU takes on conference rival Azusa Pacific at APU on Monday night.
