Sunbirds coast past Seasiders

Box Score

The Sunbirds scored six goals for the second straight match as FPU's high-octane offense cruised past BYU-Hawaii 6-2.

It took virtually no time for Fresno Pacific to get on the board as Fabricio Nazare rifled in a goal from 30-yds out to put the Sunbirds up 1-0.

“Fabricio is on fire right now,” said head coach Jaime Ramirez. “He is playing with so much confidence all the time.”

Nazare has tallied two goals and two assists on the first road trip of the season for Fresno Pacific.

Forward Paul Islas notched his fourth goal in two contests, and his seventh of the season, in the eighth minute on the assist from Rodrigo Vianna to put Fresno Pacific up 2-0.

FPU dominated the run of play in the game allowing very little opportunities for the Seasiders to score in the first half. The one opportunity that was given up was a free kick just outside the 18-yard box that BYU-Hawaii managed to sneak past goalkeeper Steven Waite to pull BYU-Hawaii within one.

A barrage of Sunbird attacks though quickly put the game out of reach for good as Vianna scored on a nice feed from Alvaro Nogales in the 16th minute followed by an 18th minute goal from Alexis Hernandez who ended up with the rebound from a Nazare shot off the keeper and put it in the back of the net.

“We came out and connected well with our passes,” said Ramirez. “We knocked the ball around very well and they weren't ready for it.”

Just ten minutes later Nogales put a beautiful move on the keeper and chipped it in for the 5-1 lead.

The second half was a different story with little happening for either side. The Seasiders did manage a goal in the 71st minute followed by a Bruno Pessoa goal on the assist from Gustavo Silva who played a good ball into the box.

“I was very happy with the victory and I was very happy with our ability to finish the scoring opportunities we had,” said Ramirez. “They were a good team and they played with a lot of energy, I was pleased we could match that.”

With the game in hand the Sunbirds were able to rest a lot of players before their upcoming match this Thursday against Hawaii Pacific who come into the match at 3-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
