SAN DIEGO, Calif. - In the final match of the regular season, Fresno Pacific men's soccer contested against three-time conference champ Point Loma on Saturday at the PLNU Soccer Field. The 'Birds made multiple attempts to score, but the Sea Lions effectively held off their advances, ultimately defeating FPU 0-4.
The first half began with Fresno Pacific pressing early, as
Chris Macias attempted a shot within the first minute.
Julian Aran Martin followed up with another effort, but the shots were not converted. Point Loma responded with multiple attacks, and Sea Lions scored in the 13th minute, giving the home team an initial lead.

Elmer Carballo made several key saves, including a penalty kick stop in the 40th minute. Despite the defensive efforts, Point Loma added another goal in the 27th minute then extended the lead further in the 42nd minute with another goal. The first half concluded with Fresno Pacific trailing 3-0.
The second half began with the Sunbirds looking to change the momentum early. Carballo made a crucial save on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute, keeping the score within reach. The Blue and Orange generated several opportunities, including a notable shot by
Lucas Ribeiro that was saved by Sea Lions goalkeeper, but failed to convert any chances.
Point Loma extended their lead in the 60th minute, stopping FPU from closing the gap. The half saw continued pressure from Fresno Pacific, with multiple shots and corner kicks, but they were unable to break through Point Loma's defense. The game concluded with a 4-0 score in favor of Point Loma.
Carballo made six saves over 90 minutes, facing 17 shots, and allowed four goals. Aran Martin managed two shots, with one on target. Macias also attempted two shots in the match. Ribeiro contributed with a single shot that was on goal.
"It was a humbling defeat against a top team," said head coach
Cameron Shahrokhi. "Fortunately, we will get a second chance at the tournament next week. We will regroup and begin preparing for the post-season. I'm confident in our group! We have an amazing group of young men and coaches. The best is yet to come."
Although the 'Birds fell to Point Loma, they currently boast an overall record of 7-8-2 and 6-3-1 in PacWest play. The team clinched the fourth spot in the PacWest conference standings, following behind Point Loma, Vanguard, and Hawaii Hilo.
NEXT UP: The 'Birds officially punched their ticket to the PacWest Championships! The Sunbirds travel down to Santa Barbara on Nov. 13th and 15th to compete for the tournament title.
