On January 22, 2013, Islas became the second player in FPU men's soccer history to be selected in the MLS draft (supplemental 1st round, pick 19, Chivas USA).
As a Senior (2012) - Spearheaded one of the top scoring attacks in the nation with 22 goals and 12 assists in 19 games played with every opponent gameplanning around stopping him.....led a Fresno Pacific team that scored 83 goals on the season, more than any team in the nation at the NCAA Division II level....earned NSCAA NCAA Division II All-American, NSCAA First Team All-West Region and NCCAA West Region player of the year honors....led the Sunbirds to an 18-5 record and a second place finish in the program's first season in the 14-team NCAA Division II Pacific West Conference....had seven multi-goal games on the season including three hat-tricks...scored three goals in wins over Hawaii Hilo (9/22), Holy Names (10/6), and Point Loma (11/1)....also had two assists in the win over HNU for a total of eight points in an 8-0 FPU victory....scored multiple goals in victories over Cal State Monterey Bay (9/1) and Dominican (10/4), as well as West Region playoff wins over Trinity Lutheran (11/15) and California Baptist (11/17)....scored four times off PacWest goalkeeper of the year Joey Pacheco of California Baptist on the season and was headed for a fifth before being taken out on the play in the NCCAA national title match, resulting in a shoulder injury which kept him out of the MLS Combine....had the game-tying assist with five minutes left to force overtime in FPU's national semifinal PK-victory over Palm Beach Atlantic (11/29)....after the season was
named one of the top forward prospects in the MLS draft by Top Drawer Soccer....finished his FPU career third all-time in goals scored (55), one spot ahead of coach Jaime Ramirez, and third in assists (33).
As a Junior (2011) - One of the most lethal strikers in the nation at any level....earned First Team All-American and GSAC Player of the Year honors despite battling injuries for much of the season....either scored or assisted on a goal in 16 of FPU's 18 matches....led the GSAC champion Sunbirds with 16 goals and 12 assists for a total of 44 points on the season, including five game-winning goals....scored the game-winning goal in the 90th minute of FPU's playoff win over Westmont (11/2)....scored twice in FPU's 4-3 win at #8 Concordia, including the game-winner to clinch the conference title.....had both goals in 2-0 win at Point Loma Nazarene (10/8)....scored all three goals in 3-1 win over #5 Azusa Pacific (10/5)....scored the golden goal in overtime to beat UC Santa Cruz (10/1)....had two goals and two assists in 6-0 win over San Diego Christian (9/24)....had a goal and an assist in wins over Menlo and Corban....finished with a goal and two assists in 5-1 win over #16 Holy Names (8/30)....scored a goal against NCAA D1 San Jose State to tie the game in the second half (8/26)....was named GSAC Player of the Week four times and NAIA national player of the week once.
As a Sophomore (2010) - Established himself as the Sunbirds' most feared striker, leading the team with nine goals and five assists (23 points) while earning All-GSAC and NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors....Started all 18 games for FPU....scored two goals and assisted on two others in a 5-1 win over Point Loma Nazarene (10/30)....scored a goal and had two assists in 4-1 road win at Westmont (10/13)....assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime vs. nationally-ranked The Master's (9/29)....scored goals in five straight games from 8/28-9/18, including FPU's lone goal against NCAA D1 Sacramento State and against eventual national champion Hastings.....Also scored to give the team a 2-0 lead on nationally ranked NCAA D2 Sonoma State and netted a crucial goal in 2-1 overtime win over Holy Names (9/18).
As a Freshman (2009) - Put together an excellent first season with the Sunbirds, finishing with eight goals, four assists and 20 points....He appeared in 14 games, starting 10 of them, and took 48 shots, 20 on goal....Had a goal and an assist in win over CSU-San Marcos (9/19)....Recorded both assists in a 2-0 win over Cal Baptist (10/10)....Scored two goals in 5-4 win over Westmont (10/14) and scored the lone goal in national tournament loss vs. Embry Riddle (12/1).
Prior to FPU - Paul garnered numerous soccer honors, including Valley Player of the Year, while leading Bullard High School to its best seasons in school history....led his team to the Valley championships and into the state playoffs....was heavily recruited by multiple top NCAA Division I programs but chose to stay close to home and play for the Sunbirds.
Personal - Paul was born and raised in Fresno...the son of Paul and Teressa Islas....chose FPU for its proximity to home and to play for legendary coach Jaime Ramirez....Paul is a Kinesiology major...His career goal is to become a professional soccer player or physical therapist.
